Registrar: DomainSite.com Purchase Date: March 2001 Opened: May 2001 Host: EFanGuide.com Why?: I bought Derek-Jeter.org after searching for a site on Derek Jeter and not being able to find many that weren't chaotic and in disarray, not to mention a site that had updated sometime within the last two years. There were a few, one is now closed (Derek Jeter's Corner), and another is still open (Derek Jeter Yankee Heartthrob), but that's a handful out of literally thousands of sites on Derek Jeter. I'm a fan of baseball, of course a fan of Derek's so why not make a site on Derek? I chose the name Derek-Jeter.org because it was the only acceptable name that was available. I really don't like the dash but just about everything else was taken. What's sad is that I don't think fans bought the names. I think some company bought them so that they could auction the names off and charge people ridiculous amounts of money. Try looking at derekjeter.net. Error page. This site is made using the following: Adobe Photoshop (for graphics), Jasc Paint Shop Pro (for graphics), Jasc Animation Shop (for animated graphics), Ulead Cool 3D (for graphics), ATI TV Wonder (for videos and screen captures), Blaze Media Pro (for video compression, video editing, and screen captures), Cute FTP (for file upload), Cute HTML (for file editing), WS FTP (for file upload), WinZip (for file compression), and Notepad (for file editing). I probably don't use all of these programs at once. This is just a list of programs that at one point or another I do use and without one of them it'd be pretty hard to maintain the site. For example I don't always use two FTP programs but some things are easier to do in WS FTP than they are in Cute FTP and vice versa. Another example is I can't figure out Adobe Image Ready (which comes with Adobe Photoshop for things like image mapping, etc.) for the life of me so I make an image in Adobe and use Paint Shop Pro to map it, dice it, whatever. Most of these programs have trial downloads and/or information on the product so that's why I provided the links.
